ABOUT THIS SITE
As February 16th, 2007 will mark the centennial for Alec Wilder (1907-80) it seems only fitting that we do everything possible to bring national attention to his work as a composer and his contributions to American music. As Wilder was often misunderstood, ignored, and labeled a maverick, his music does not easily “fit” into any one category. Yet, he is truly an American original deserving wider recognition. For many reasons, including a self-professed lack of confidence, Wilder resisted notoriety and acclaim preferring simply to live life “his way” and to compose primarily for friends.
We, the members of the steering committee, will endeavor to contact colleges and universities, libraries, and anyone interested in presenting a concert program acknowledging and celebrating the 100th year of Wilder’s birth. It is our hope that these programs will bring greater attention to his work and life as composer, poet, writer, and his unique persona.
This site will provide information, which may help anyone wishing to sponsor or host such a program and hopefully provide some insights about Wilder.
You may help us by spreading the word and putting people in contact with our site where further detailed information is available. For additional information you may contact.....
